We have a location!
We have exciting news! We pulled the trigger on a house in Capitol Hill! It is the same house that we posted about before. It is exactly what we were looking for in most respects and we hope to send you pictures and dimensions about the house soon.
Now we have been given a new challenge! We need to fill the house with furniture and residents. In addition to that we need funding for our start up rent and our house emergency fund.
1st Need: Residents!
We have a short list of residents that have shown interest in moving into the house, but only one of them is a confirmed resident. Right now we are working on scheduling a date for all interested residents to come look at the house and determine if they want to live there. We’d prefer a commitment by the beginning of August, but if we raise enough backup funds we could wait until mid august or september for residents to move in.
There are three rooms available. Two small bedrooms on the top floor that are $500 per month each, and a large master bedroom that will be $725 per month. This room is big enough to split between two residents so the cost per resident will be $362.50 per month. (These prices do not include utilities which should be another $30 or so per month, also we may arrange some sort of house food fund for community meals and such, but we will tackle that after move in) Luz and I will take the mother-in-law apartment in the basement and be paying $850 per month. If you are interested in living at the Capitol Hill Artist House, please let us know!
2nd Need: Furniture and Stuff!
It is a big house and therefore we will need lots of furniture and other stuff to fill it up! Not only will we need furniture to fill the common areas, but we want to have beds available for the students as well. Here is a list of what we are looking for right now.
- Small Beds. (Full or twin. The rooms aren’t super big)
- Dressers
- Small Desks
- Shelving
- Bed Linens and Towels
- Dishes
- Large Dining Room Set
- Full size Freezer
- Extra Fridge
Please send us pictures of stuff you want to donate and we will try to schedule a way of picking it up.
3rd Need: Money!
We want there to be as little pressure on the potential residents as possible as most of them will be poor college students. One way of doing this is raising money for our early rent and emergency fund.
Today we are going to start a specific bank account for the Artist House. All money used and given to the artist house will go through this account. Unfortunately we need money sooner than we can start a legitimate non-profit, so for the time being we will run it through this account.
We need to pay first months rent for the house in about 10 days, and the last months rent by the beginning of august. Some of the students do not have the financial backing to get this money together by the time we need it. So we would greatly appreciate financial backing so we can give the students more time to make the right decision and come up with the funds. We will pay first and last months rent from this account, and the students will pay the account back when they commit and move in.
The most urgent financial need is that we need roughly $1800 in the next 10 days to secure the house for us, and we will need another $3000 by the end of the month. Some of this money will be provided by us and by the students, but we hope you can find it in your hearts to donate to the cause to get the house going.
If you wish to make a donation, please mail us a check made out to Cole or Luz Bratcher, with “Artist House Startup” written in the memo blank at:
4 W Howe St. Apt 2
Seattle, WA 98119
We are really looking forward to all the amazing things God is doing with the artist house! We appreciate your prayers and support!
